E-Bike Sales Up in Austria
In 2024, e-bikes accounted for 57% (226k units) of all bicycle sales in Austria, up from 52% in 2023, the highest market share in Europe. Total bicycle sales stood at 395k units, a 6% decline compared to 2023. The growth in the e-bike segment was driven by government subsidies, which supported 13.3k e-bike purchases with incentives of up to €900. The industry is now advocating for an extension of the subsidy program. For the fourth consecutive year, industry revenue surpassed €1B. E-bikes generated 77% of total revenue from bike sales.
Voi's Q1 Revenues up 28%
In Q1 2025, Voi generated €26.3m in revenue, up 28% YoY and posted an EBIT loss of €7.9m
Key Metrics:
Deployed vehicles: 92k (+18%)
Trips: 16.03 million (+39%)
Trips per vehicle/day (TVD): 1.93 (+19%)
Net Revenue per vehicle/day (RVD): €3.17 (+10%)
Market EBITDA: €5.2m vs €2.5m last year.
Vehicle profit margin: 48.4%, up from 41%
D.C. Proposes E-Bike Battery Safety Standards
Legislation was introduced in D.C. to establish mandatory fire safety standards for e-bike and scooter batteries. The proposed Micromobility Fire Safety Standards Act of 2025 aims to reduce fire risks linked to substandard batteries. Between November 2018 and March 2025, riders in the District traveled over 38m miles on e-bikes and scooters. Capital Bikeshare, with a fleet of over 1k e-bikes, saw nearly a 40% increase in its 6.1m total rides during 2024. The bill would regulate both in-store and online sales to improve consumer safety.
Citroën Adds Ami Buggy Variant
Citroën is expanding its Ami micro-EV lineup with the addition of the Ami Buggy. The two-seater microcar is currently available in 18 markets, with 75k units sold. The new Ami is priced at €7,990 while the Ami Buggy starts at €9,590.
MTA Enhances Bike and Pedestrian Paths
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has completed ADA-compliant bike/pedestrian paths on Robert F. Kennedy (RFK), Henry Hudson, and Cross Bay Bridges, enhancing connectivity across NYC. The RFK Bridge now links Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, and Randall’s Island (full completion by 2027), while Henry Hudson Bridge improves access between Spuyten Duyvil and Inwood Hill Park, and Cross Bay Bridge connects Broad Channel to the Rockaways. Partnerships with NYC DOT and advocacy groups aim to bridge transit gaps and promote safety.
GM, LG Develop Breakthrough Battery
General Motors will be the first automaker to deploy lithium manganese-rich (LMR) batteries, aiming to boost EV range and affordability. In partnership with LG, it will begin U.S. production of LMR cells by 2028. The new batteries offer 33% more energy density than LFP cells at a similar cost, enabling over 400 miles of range and reducing costs for electric trucks and SUVs.
Vilnius Adds 350 Parking Spaces
Vilnius is adding 350 new parking spots for e-scooters and e-bikes by mid-June, bringing the total to around 800 citywide. Currently, Ryde (e-bikes only) and Bolt (e-scooters and e-bikes) are the two shared micromobility operators in the city. There are about 4.5k shared micromobility devices in use.
St. Petersburg Adds 900 Scooters
In Florida, St. Petersburg is adding 900 new e-scooters as part of its initiative to expand mobility options. Lime and Spin operate the city's e-scooters, replacing previous operators Veo and Razor. The program has generated about $1m in fees since the pilot began in 2020. Users have logged 1.25m trips since then, averaging 761 trips per day. The city prohibits riding on sidewalks and requires users to park in designated corrals.
Soest Launches New Bike-Share
Soest has launched "HelBi" (Hellweg Bike), a new bike-sharing system operated by Nextbike under a three-year contract. The system offers 173 bikes, including 28 e-bikes and 3 e-cargo bikes, across 37 stations in Soest. The initiative is part of a €2m project funded by the NRW Ministry of Transport.
Atlanta Eyes E-Bike Voucher Extension
Atlanta City Council aims to extend its e-bike voucher program, which provided over 500 residents with rebates in 2024. Funded initially with $1m, the program saw more than 11k applicants and spurred at least $1.2m in sales across local bike shops. A new $1m proposal seeks to continue the program, A February report recommended lowering rebate amounts to broaden access.
Langford Unveils New Evolve Program
City of Langford will launch BCAA’s Evolve e-bike and e-scooter share program in June, deploying 75 e-bikes and 75 e-scooters at 30 stations. Evolve was awarded the city's micromobility contract following a competitive process.
Seoul Trials Mobility Free Zones
Seoul will pilot Korea's first no-go zones for e-scooters and e-bikes starting May 16 in Hongdae and Banpo-dong, from noon to 11 p.m. Violators of the ban will face fines of $21 and 15 demerit points on standard roads, and $43 and 30 demerit points in designated child safety zones. If more than 40 demerit points are accumulated, licenses may be revoked. The city will assess the program in September for possible expansion.
Flower Mound Adopts New Riding Safety Rules
Flower Mound’s Town Council has approved new safety regulations for bicycles, e-scooters, and e-bikes, effective in early June. Key rules include mandatory helmets for riders under 14, a ban on handheld devices and headphones while riding, nighttime lighting requirements, and new yielding protocols for pedestrians. First-time violators may opt to take a town-provided safety course instead of paying a fine.
Wandsworth Joins TfL E-Scooter Trial
Wandsworth officially joined TfL’s rental e-scooter trial program on 12th May. Lime and Voi are the designated operators, utilizing 170 dedicated parking bays. Meanwhile, private e-scooters remain illegal to use on roads, pavements, and cycle lanes.
NSW Greenlights E-Scooter Use
NSW plans to legalize e-scooters on shared paths and bike lanes with speed limits of 10–20 km/h. On 50 km/h roads, e-scooters' speed will be capped at 20 km/h. Riding on pedestrian-only footpaths will remain prohibited. There are about 1.35m devices in NSW homes. The NSW Government will not introduce new e-bike speed limits and is developing a framework to reduce street clutter from shared e-bike schemes.

Dresden Seeks New Micromobility Operators
Dresden City Council is seeking new micromobility operators to expand its e-scooter and bike-sharing services. Up to six operator permits will be issued for 2.5k e-scooters and 3k bikes over three years. Applications are open until May 30, 2025, with decisions by June 30.
Halifax Launches E-Scooter Pilot
Starting May 15, Bird Canada, in partnership with the Halifax Regional Municipality, will launch a two-year pilot program introducing 300 e-bikes and 300 e-scooters to the region. The micromobility devices will have designated parking zones.
