Capital Bikeshare Registers Record Rides in Washington
The Capital Bikeshare system in the Washington Metropolitan area recorded 6.1 million rides in 2024, marking a 37% increase from 4.4 million rides in 2023. As one of the fastest-growing bikeshare systems in the U.S. and the second busiest after New York City’s Citi Bike, CaBi has seen a significant shift in ridership. E-bike usage has surged dramatically, climbing from just 12% in January 2023 to an impressive 70% by December 2024.
Voi Reports First-Ever Adjusted EBIT Profit in 2024
Voi has reported adjusted positive EBIT of €100k on €132.8m net revenue in 2024. Their largest investor VNV Global has marked up Voi's valuation by 26% from $382.9m in Q3 2024 to $484.2m in Q4. Voi ended 2024 with cash and cash equivalents of €60m and liabilities to bondholders of €50m.

Hopp Launches E-Scooters in Washington DC
Hopp by Bolt has launched its e-scooters in Washington, D.C., deploying 720 units with plans to expand. Lime, Veo & Spin are existing operators in the city.
Lime is investing £20m in London
Lime has announced a £20m plan to address e-bike parking in London, including a £5m investment in 2,500 new dedicated dockless hire bays, with 1,500 available within six months. Additionally, £13.4m will be used to expand its on-street team by 100, increasing the total to 400, alongside key tech upgrades.
Tier-Dott's Bristol E-Scooter Contract Extended
Tier-Dott's contract to operate Bristol's e-scooter rental scheme has been extended, with new parking bays planned for the city.
Swifty Scooters Enters Liquidation
British e-scooter manufacturer Swifty Scooters has entered liquidation. The company developed the UK's first road-legal e-scooter; however, it has faced multiple setbacks due to delays in e-scooter legislation in the UK. As a result, insurance providers were reluctant to underwrite the vehicle. Swifty won the Best Startup Award at Micromobility America 2023.
NYC Launches Free E-Bike Trade-In for Delivery Workers
New York City’s DOT launched an e-bike trade-in program for delivery workers, offering certified e-bikes and spare batteries at no cost. Funded with $2m, it aims to replace 400+ uncertified e-bikes or mopeds with safer models by 2025.
Pierer New Mobility Restructures E-Bike Operations
Pierer New Mobility is centralizing e-bike operations in Austria and California, closing offices in South Africa, Germany, and the UK. In 2024, it sold 106k e-bikes, down 32% from 155k in 2023, mainly due to the R Raymon brand sale.
SURE Mobility, Smart Wheelz Announce Merger
SURE Mobility and Smart Wheelz have merged to form a leading Dutch e-bike rental firm and will be based in Terneuzen. The merger will integrate Smart Wheelz’ E-chopper into SURE Mobility’s portfolio and develop solutions like Bicycle as a Service (BaaS) and Multi Mobility Charging Islands.
