Netherlands Leads Europe in Cycling Infrastructure
European countries show stark contrasts in their investment in cycling infrastructure relative to their public road networks. The Netherlands leads the way, with nearly 27% of its public roads matched by dedicated cycling infrastructure. Belgium, Germany, and Denmark also show strong commitments, each with over 16%. On the other hand, Italy and France still have a long way to go, with less than 5% coverage. This data reflects how cycling-friendly urban planning varies significantly across the continent.
Voi, Dott, and Lime Win Paris E-Bike Tender
Paris has awarded Voi, Dott, and Lime a four-year contract (starting October 2025) to operate its shared e-bike program. Each operator will deploy 3k-6k e-bikes, scaling up to 7.5k each (22.5k total) during peak season. Voi secures its largest ever contract, entering the Paris market.
Operator fees will jump significantly from €600k to €4m annually for all three. The scheme complements Paris's existing Vélib' system. Rejected operator Pony intends to challenge the decision after the council's July vote legally.

Lime Expands Docked E-Scooters
Lime has expanded its docked e-scooter service to downtown Vancouver, adding 28 stations (now 98 total) with 525 docking stations. The expansion meets city safety requirements to prevent sidewalk clutter. Since launching in 2024, Lime has recorded over 10k riders and 75k trips in Vancouver. The initial 5-year contract is renewable for up to 20 years.
Spin Exits San Marcos
Spin will cease e-scooter/bike operations in San Marcos by June 30, citing low ridership and tariff impacts, despite a recent city council contract renewal through 2026. The service, launched in 2021, recorded over 322k rides. The city and Texas State University are negotiating with Spin but will seek a new vendor by fall 2025, maintaining alternatives like public transit and shuttles.
Perth Suspends E-Scooter Rentals Indefinitely
The City of Perth has indefinitely suspended all e-scooter rentals following a fatal collision where a pedestrian was struck by a rental scooter, marking Western Australia’s first e-scooter pedestrian death. Operators Beam and Neuron removed ~500 devices from the streets. Officials confirmed no timeline for resumption, citing safety reviews.
Vaughan Launches Shared Micromobility Pilot
Vaughan has launched a two-year shared micromobility pilot program, introducing rented e-scooters and e-bikes operated by Bird, Lime, and Neuron. The service will debut in limited zones (Pine Valley/Dufferin and Teston/Highway 407) and expand gradually during the pilot. Neuron is deploying 100 e-scooters and 25 e-bikes initially, offering discounted launch passes. After the trial, the city will evaluate whether to adopt the service permanently.
