Bird and Segway Launch Next-Gen Micromobility Fleet
Bird and Segway have formed a strategic alliance to launch a next-generation fleet of three co-developed shared electric scooters and e-bikes (Bird Dash, Explorer, Journey) across key North American markets starting summer 2025. The vehicles prioritize enhanced durability (reinforced structures, IPX7 water resistance), advanced safety (dual braking, collision sensors, UL certified), and sustainability (recycled materials, longer-life batteries), with the Bird Journey e-bike offering a 90km range. Initial deployment has already driven a 40% increase in ridership for these new models.
Cambodia’s Bike Export to EU Rebound
In the first half of 2025, Cambodia exported $311m worth of bicycles to foreign markets, marking a 51.7% increase from the same period in 2024. Meanwhile, between January and May 2025, the EU imported just under 139k Cambodian-made bikes, down from over 154k during the same period in 2024.
However, e-bike imports rose from 10.3k units in 2024 to 25.5k units this year.

Turku Plans Weekend Night Ban on Rental E-Scooters
Finland’s new micromobility law enables cities to regulate rental e-scooters via licensing. Turku is proposing a weekend night ban (midnight - 5 a.m.) in its city center, citing parking chaos and safety concerns. Helsinki, where similar restrictions reduced accidents, will retain its weekend ban. Turku also plans more parking zones and driving ban areas to address sidewalk clutter. Rental operator Voi Technology opposes the ban as "unnecessary," arguing new alcohol/age limits suffice and most rides occur on weekday commutes. Municipalities aim to finalize licensing models this fall for 2026 implementation.
Lime Surpasses 1M Rides in Atlanta
Lime surpassed 1m rides in Atlanta during the first half of 2025, marking a 45% YoY increase, including 205k trips in June alone. Fueled by this growth, Atlanta now stands as the only U.S. city with both Lime’s newest e-bike (LimeBike) and seated e-scooter (Lime Glider) deployed.
New Lime Models Hit Kelowna
Kelowna is expanding its shared micromobility services with 100 new e-bikes. These are Lime's latest e-bike models, and Kelowna is one of the first cities in the country to test them. Since services began in 2021, riders in Kelowna have logged 1.6m trips on e-bikes and e-scooters combined. Lime is currently active in 11 municipalities across Canada.
Australia Trials E-Bike License Program
New South Wales is piloting a Student Bicycle License Scheme (SBLS) requiring school-aged e-bike/scooter riders to complete online safety training and pass a knowledge test for a digital license. Targeting rising youth accidents, the voluntary trial (launching late 2025 in select schools) focuses on education, covering speed limits, helmets, and road rules, with no fines during the pilot. If successful, it could model similar global efforts to promote responsible micromobility use among youth without burdensome enforcement.
Bo Unveils 100mph E-Scooter
UK-based vehicle company Bo has unveiled “The Turbo,” an ultra-high-performance e-scooter aiming to become the world’s fastest, with a top speed of over 100 mph. Built on the same chassis as Bo’s road-legal Model-M, The Turbo features a 24,000W dual motor and advanced traction control. A limited number of units will be built to order, starting at $29.5k, with the first delivery scheduled for Madrid in 2026. Meanwhile, the Bo Model-M will be available for purchase in the US starting August 2025.
NSW Delays E-Bike Certification to 2026
New South Wales has postponed its e-bike safety certification deadline from August 2025 to February 2026 after industry warnings of supply chain disruptions. The rules, targeting lithium-ion fire risks, require costly testing for all e-bikes/scooters sold or rented in NSW. While $825k fines for non-compliance are delayed, $5.5k penalties for missing safety documentation take effect August 1. The state maintains market surveillance against uncertified products.
Victoria Mulls E-Bike Ban on Trains & Trams
Victoria’s transport authorities are considering banning private e-bikes and e-scooters from trains, trams, and buses due to growing concerns over lithium-ion battery fires. Public feedback on the proposal is open until August 18, with final rules expected by late September. In 2021, the Australian government revoked the requirement for e-bikes and their batteries sold in Australia to comply with European safety standards. As a result, multiple fire incidents have occurred on public transport.
Europcar Launches Microlino Rentals
Europcar Switzerland has become the first major rental company to introduce the two-seater Microlino electric microcar in Zurich and Bern. This follows its earlier availability through Astara in Spain, where Microlinos have been offered via subscription and carshare services since July 2023. Microlino owners are now eligible for exclusive discounts on Europcar rentals worldwide.
EMotorad Targets 20K Exports Yearly
EMotorad’s unit Dynem has started exporting e-bikes to the US, with shipments beginning in July and several partnerships already in place. It targets 20k annual exports, and the e-bikes comply with U.S. regulations. The company expects $10m in annual recurring revenue from the U.S. market. Dynem is also working with distributors to introduce EMotorad e-bikes in the region.
