Spain's Bicycle Industry Revenue Falls for Third Year
Spain’s bicycle industry turnover fell by 6.5% to €2.31B. Similarly, bicycle sales volume also decreased by 12% from 1.22m units in 2023 to 1.10m units. The average price of a bicycle sold in Spain is up by 4.6% in 2024 to €1,167, driven by e-bikes. The lack of support policies to promote urban bikes has had a significant impact on bike sales.

Shared Micromobility Returns to Minneapolis
Shared e-bikes and e-scooters returned to Minneapolis for the 2025 season on April 7. Lime will deploy 2k vehicles, while Spin has already deployed 1k of them with the potential to add more as needed. Lime’s fleet includes new throttle e-bikes and Gen4 e-scooters.
Coquitlam Launches Transit Mobility Hub
TransLink and the City of Coquitlam have launched a mobility hub at Coquitlam Central Station with designated parking for shared e-bikes and e-scooters to support transit connections. The pilot runs until December 2025, with data collected to assess its success and guide future expansion.
Hamilton City Council Increases Bike Share Budget
Hamilton City Council voted in favour of increasing annual funding for Hamilton Bike Share from $486k to $744k, a 50% rise. The program has 32k active members and recorded 500k rides in 2024 and is expected to reach 700k in 2025. Hamilton Bike Share covers about 67% of the cost to run the service, while the council pays the rest. Following the funding increase, the city will pay about $62 per bike per month. Around 100 new bikes will be added to the fleet, bringing the total to 1,000.
Lime Partners with Redwood Materials to Power Circular Battery Recycling
Lime has partnered with Redwood Materials as its exclusive end-of-life battery recycling provider across the U.S., Germany, and The Netherlands. Redwood will recover critical materials like lithium and cobalt from Lime’s e-bike and e-scooter batteries, reintegrating them into the battery supply chain and supporting Lime’s circularity and decarbonization goals.
NYC Launches Sidewalk E-Bike Charging Initiative
New York City opened applications for property owners and tenants to install e-bike battery charging and swapping cabinets on sidewalks. Following a pilot that cut indoor charging by 35%, installations require FDNY-approved units, permits, and compliance with city standards, guided by a DOT application process. The initiative complements expanded bike lanes and an e-bike trade-in program.
Lime’s E-Scooter and E-Bikes Return in Rochester
In Rochester, Lime’s shared e-scooters and e-bikes have returned for the spring season. In 2024, the number of trips increased by 24%, reaching 133k, out of which 122k were from e-scooters and 11k from e-bikes. To promote responsible parking, the city is introducing parking corrals in the downtown area, following over 6k violations last year.

Washington E-Bike Rebate Program Launched
Washington's WE-Bike rebate program launched on the 9th of April, offering 10k residents a chance to receive e-bike vouchers. Of these, 6k will go to low-income households, providing vouchers of up to $1,200, while others will receive $300. Applications will be accepted for two weeks, until April 23.
Burlington Launches E-Scooter Pilot Program
Burlington plans a 2-year e-scooter pilot on Centennial Trail and is seeking operator proposals. The tender closes on April 23, with agreements expected by mid-May. As per the tender, the city will not charge operators any fees and does not anticipate revenue sharing.
Bird Exits Healdsburg Early
Bird ended Healdsburg’s e-bike share program early, originally planned until 2026, due to low ridership and sustainability issues. Bird clarified that the withdrawal was not due to inventory shortages but rather low usage. Healdsburg has no immediate replacement plans due to funding constraints but remains open to future partnerships.
