Lime Expands Fleet for World Cup Host Cities
Lime is scaling up its operations across nine North American World Cup host cities this summer, deploying over 14k additional vehicles in select markets and introducing a Fan Pass offering up to 90 minutes of ride time at a fixed price capped at $15. The pass, available June 8 through July 19, is designed to sit outside the surge pricing that typically hits ride-hail and transit during major events, savings range from 74% to 80% cheaper than standard pay-as-you-go pricing depending on the city. On the operational side, Lime will use dynamic rebalancing to manage pre- and post-match demand spikes, with dedicated parking corrals and valet zones near stadiums. The playbook draws directly from Paris 2024, where Lime's fleet made 3.4m trips during the Summer Games, and Milan earlier this year.
The Supply Chain Behind Every Scooter Trip
The battery is the single most expensive component in any e-bike or e-scooter, accounting for 20–30% of total vehicle cost, and the supply chain behind it is longer and more fragile than most riders ever consider. The key minerals that power lithium-ion batteries are mined across Africa, South America, and Australia, but processed overwhelmingly in China, which refines over 65% of the world’s lithium, cobalt, and graphite. China’s export restrictions on graphite in 2023 and rare earth metals in 2025 have turned that concentration into an active risk. In response, the industry is shifting toward LFP battery chemistry while governments invest in building refining capacity elsewhere, but both are long-term bets. The cost declines that made shared micromobility viable were built on cheap minerals and Chinese processing scale. Whether that continues is, for now, an open question.
NYC DOT to Complete Key Brooklyn Bridge Bike Link
The NYC DOT has unveiled a long-awaited plan to create a protected bike lane along Adams Street and Boerum Place, closing a critical gap in the route to the Brooklyn Bridge bike path. The project will be delivered in two phases; north of Atlantic Avenue this fall and south of Atlantic Avenue in 2027, and will transform a corridor known for illegal parking and safety concerns into a continuous protected connection between Downtown Brooklyn, the bridge, and future bike boulevard networks. The upgrade is expected to improve safety, reduce conflicts with traffic, and strengthen one of New York City’s busiest micromobility corridors.
Bradford's Beryl E-Bike Scheme Hits 8k Trips
Bradford's LNER-sponsored Beryl e-bike scheme has recorded over 8k journeys covering 23,692 km in its first three months since launching in March, with an average trip length of 2.88 km. The scheme, part-funded by £800k from Bradford Council's Clean Air Zone budget, allows riders to unlock bikes via a phone app from docking stations across the city centre and wider district. Early issues with vandalism and bikes being left outside docking stations have since improved. The milestone was highlighted as Bradford prepares to celebrate Bike Week, which began on June 8.

Gazelle Picks Up Speed with New Class 3 Ultimate E-Bikes
Dutch e-bike manufacturer Gazelle has launched two new models for the North American market, the Ultimate C380+ 2.0 ($4,999) and the Ultimate T11+ ($4,499), both capable of Class 3 speeds up to 28 mph. Both bikes are powered by a Bosch Performance Line Sport mid-drive motor delivering up to 85 Nm of torque, paired with a 540 Wh integrated battery. The main difference between the two is the drivetrain: the C380+ uses a Gates belt drive with an Enviolo hub, while the T11+ runs an 11-speed Shimano CUES derailleur system. Both come equipped with an 80mm suspension fork, 55mm wide tires, hydraulic disc brakes, integrated lights, fenders, and a rear cargo rack, and are backed by a 10-year frame warranty.
