The French bicycle market contracted by 12% in 2024 (1.95m units), with revenue falling 5.9% to €3.2B. Despite a 16% drop in e-bike sales (565k units), they retained 58% of total revenue (€1.86B), driven by a 4% price increase to an average €2,045. Bird to Discontinue Service in Bay City
Bird is discontinuing its service in Bay City, Michigan, by May 16, 2025. The decision is due to internal corporate changes, not local ridership levels or city policy. The company has expressed interest in possibly returning in the future. In the meantime, the city is exploring new micromobility partnerships.

Evolve is adding 26 new bike stations and will roll out e-scooters by mid-June. BCAA fully funds the program, however, the program relies on user fees to sustain operations.

Sydney Council Seizes E-Bikes Over Safety
Waverley Council in Sydney is seizing shared e-bikes which are causing obstructions by improper parking. The council has called on operators to take greater responsibility for how the bikes are used and parked. The move follows an earlier notice to impound bikes if providers failed to sign a usage and storage agreement. Lime, Hello Ride, Beam and Ario are the 4 e-bike operators in the region.

Aventon Tackles Chinese Tariffs on E-Bikes
Aventon Bikes shifted its entire e-bike production to Thailand in early 2025 to avoid steep Chinese tariffs. Currently, Chinese e-bikes face a combined 170% tariff, comprising a 145% retaliatory tariff and a 25% Section 301 tariff. Tariffs on e-bikes from other countries are currently 10% but may rise in July 2025. Due to the lack of a domestic supply of critical components, the company will not be moving production to the U.S. anytime soon. If tariffs on components are lifted in the future, Aventon may consider assembling bikes in the U.S.
