Cowboy's Former Co-Founder Launches Electric Buggy Startup Amble
Lisbon-based startup Amble has launched the Amble One, a street-legal lightweight electric buggy designed for short-range mobility in hospitality, residential, and community settings. The company was co-founded by Adrien Roose, former co-founder of electric bike company Cowboy, alongside veterans from Apple, Audi, and forpeople. Amble is backed by Trucks VC, SolarCity co-founder Peter Rive, and former Airbnb VP Joe Zadeh. Orders are open in Europe and the US, with hospitality deliveries beginning in 2027 and consumer deliveries scheduled for 2028, starting from €20k / $25k.
The Road to Brussels’ Shared Scooter Ban
Brussels will ban shared e-scooters from January 2027, ending the licences of its two remaining operators, Bolt and Dott, at the close of 2026. The decision is striking given the scale of use, in 2025, the city recorded more than 9.5m shared scooter trips, accounting for 59% of all shared scooter trips in Belgium. The ban follows years of progressive regulation: fleet caps, drop zones, and operator consolidation, none of which the government felt had resolved the underlying problems. Accident data showed injury crashes reaching 666 in 2025, the second-highest on record, despite the fleet having already been cut by 44%. Authorities also cited the use of scooters in 25 shooting incidents, though critics questioned whether withdrawing a mass-use transport service was a proportionate response. From 2027, Brussels will focus on expanding its shared e-bike network.
Lime Launches First E-Bike Share Service in Burnaby
Lime has launched an e-bike share service in Burnaby, British Columbia, marking the city's first ever e-bike share programme. At launch, designated parking areas are available in the Metrotown and Edmonds neighbourhoods, Burnaby's civic hub near Deer Lake Park, and at Christine Sinclair Community Centre. The service is currently limited to e-bikes, e-scooters are not available in the jurisdiction, and riders must park in designated areas before ending their trip. The launch expands Lime's presence across Metro Vancouver, where it already operates in New Westminster, Vancouver, Port Moody, Coquitlam, and Richmond.

Canyon Unveils AI-Powered Safety Concept Bike
German bike brand Canyon has debuted the Predict, a prototype road bike featuring a 360-degree sensor array combining cameras, radar, and Edge AI to anticipate road hazards before riders encounter them. The system integrates with Canyon's Stingr augmented-reality smart helmet and processes all data on-device to eliminate latency and privacy risks. The concept made its debut at Eurobike in Frankfurt, running June 24-27.
Lyft Urban Solutions Reflects on Micromobility Europe 2026
Lyft Urban Solutions has shared its recap of Micromobility Europe 2026 in Berlin, the biggest edition of the event yet. The company, which now powers 18 bikeshare systems across Europe with over 40k bikes, took part in several sessions across the two days. At the technology panel, Lyft Urban Solutions' VP of Technology argued that purpose-built simplicity often outperforms high-tech complexity, with software now directing every field decision from rebalancing to battery swaps. At the policy panel, the company's Senior Policy Manager highlighted the role of shared mobility in addressing transport poverty, noting that income-eligible members across LUS-operated systems in the US take 44% more rides on average than standard members. "Mobility is not only going to work and back," he said. "It opens the city."
Greece Proposes Tougher E-Scooter Rules
Greece has proposed new regulations that would ban e-scooter riders under 17, require third-party liability insurance, and significantly increase fines for traffic violations. The draft legislation would also require riders to carry identification and proof of insurance, while obliging retailers and rental operators to verify customers' ages before selling or renting scooters. The measures are intended to improve road safety and are currently open for public consultation.
A 2024 peer-reviewed study investigates the determinants of shared e-scooter usage in Braga, Portugal, using survey data from both users and non-users of shared e-scooter services. The authors find that sociodemographic characteristics, particularly gender, trip origin, and primary mode of transport, significantly influence shared e-scooter adoption. The study also identifies the key interventions that could encourage wider use, including more dedicated cycling infrastructure, the creation of micromobility priority zones, and expanded e-scooter parking.

Using a self-reported intercept survey of 651 micromobility users and a logistic binary regression model, the authors identify notable differences between adopters of the two modes and find that city regulations play a significant role in shaping mode choice. The study also confirms that gender and age gaps persist in emerging mobility services, finds that socioeconomic differences between user groups may be partly explained by Barcelona’s restrictive regulatory environment, and concludes that shared bikes may have a greater potential than private e-scooters to reduce car use over the long term.

Drawing on 28 relevant sources identified from 59 peer-reviewed articles, the authors find that sensing technologies play an important role in capturing user behaviour and minimising risks, and that both virtual simulations and real-world experiments offer valuable insights into how micromobility devices operate across different environments. The review identifies several research gaps, including the absence of standardised experimental frameworks, limited studies on diverse demographic preferences, and insufficient integration of emerging technologies such as AI and augmented reality into micromobility safety strategies.

Florida Vetoes E-Bike Safety Bill
Florida's governor has vetoed SB 382, a bill that would have introduced new safety regulations for e-bikes and e-scooters, including a 10 mph speed limit within 50 feet of pedestrians. The veto cited concerns that enforcing the speed limit could require increased surveillance through speed detection devices, and questioned establishing a task force to study further regulations while introducing new rules immediately. Several municipalities plan to continue local education and enforcement efforts despite the bill's rejection.
Front, Mid, or Rear? A Guide to E-Bike Motor Types
The placement of an e-bike's motor shapes everything, how power is delivered, how the bike handles, and how much maintenance it needs. Mid-drive motors, positioned at the bottom bracket, deliver power through the drivetrain for a natural, balanced ride and strong hill-climbing performance, but come at a higher cost and put more wear on the chain. Rear-hub motors are the most common, offering a familiar "push" feel, lower maintenance, and drivetrain independence, though they can feel heavy and struggle on prolonged climbs. Front-hub motors are the rarest, favoured mostly by DIY converters for their simplicity, but prone to reduced steering responsiveness. The right choice depends on intended use, rear-hub for low-maintenance everyday riding, mid-drive for performance and hills, and front-hub for enthusiasts building their own setup.
Harley-Davidson's LiveWire and KYMCO Launch the S4 Honcho
Harley-Davidson's electric offshoot LiveWire has begun production of two lightweight electric models developed in partnership with KYMCO, the S4 Honcho Trail ($4,999) and S4 Honcho Street ($5,499), both set to launch this summer. Built on a 125cc-equivalent platform, both bikes share a dual-battery system with 348 Wh capacity, a top speed of 59 mph, 0-30 mph acceleration in 3 seconds, and a range of around 53 miles per charge. The key difference is intended use: the Trail model is built for dirt tracks and private land and is not street legal, while the Street model is fully homologated and road legal, equipped with mirrors, LED headlights, turn signals, and a digital dashboard. Both batteries are removable and can be charged from a standard 110V outlet in around two hours.
A Guide to Aventon E-Bike Error Codes and How to Fix Them
Aventon's proprietary smart system, the Aventon Control Unit (ACU), debuted in 2024 and is embedded in all bikes after the Abound SR. When something goes wrong, the system displays error codes, some fixable at home, others requiring a trip to the service centre. Common DIY fixes include recharging for low voltage (E28), reconnecting motor wiring for phase faults (E23), and letting the bike cool down for overheat errors (E26). Communication errors between the motor, battery, display, and ACU (E30–E33) can often be resolved by cleaning and re-fastening connections. Error codes E34, E40, E41, and E42, however, involve fully integrated components and should not be tampered with at home, as doing so risks voiding the warranty or causing further damage.
