What You Need to Know Today
Lime Launches LimeGlider in 3 US Cities
Lime launched its seated e-scooter, the LimeGlider, in Seattle (3k units), Austin (500), and Denver (250, scaling to 500). Designed for accessibility and comfort, the Glider features a bike-like frame and large wheels, catering to diverse riders, including older adults and those with mobility challenges. Lime invested $5m in Austin for 2024–25. Seattle is now Lime’s 4th-largest market, behind London, Paris & Berlin.
E-Bike Ownership in Denmark
Denmark has experienced a notable shift in e-bike ownership over the past decade, rising from just 2% in 2014 to 21% in 2024. Meanwhile, overall bicycle ownership among Danes declined, with 68% reporting ownership in 2024 compared to 77% eight years earlier. Denmark sold the second-highest number of bicycles per capita among European countries in 2023–2024, and over the past decade, the local market has grown nearly fivefold in both volume and value.
Lime Partners with Cyclic to Recycle E-Motors
Cyclic Materials and Lime have partnered to launch North America's first large-scale effort to recycle rare earth magnets from retired e-bike and e-scooter motors. Using Cyclic’s MagCycleSM and REEPureSM technologies, the initiative will recover critical materials like neodymium from Lime’s 270k+ vehicle fleet. With operations set to begin in Arizona and Ontario, the project supports Lime’s 2030 net-zero goal (with a 59.5% CO₂ reduction since 2019) and advances circular economy practices to reduce reliance on virgin materials and strengthen supply chains.

Dott introduced an in-app reservation feature allowing users to reserve e-scooters/bikes for up to 10 minutes at no cost. Users can select a nearby vehicle on the map, reserve it instantly, and scan the QR code upon arrival, addressing the common issue of vehicles being taken mid-route. The feature is available in all 400+ cities across 21 countries where Dott operates.
Cooltra Hits €60m Revenue in 2024
Cooltra Group achieved €60m in 2024 revenue (+32% YoY), driven by B2C motosharing (76% of total, €45m) and acquisitions (Cityscoot, Felyx). Expansion added 15 cities, reaching 23 cities across 6 countries with a 50% market share and 30k+ vehicles. B2B grew 4% (€14.5m) via partnerships and public sector contracts. Cooltra also launched its digital Click&Ride system, letting users book, pick up, and return vehicles without visiting a store.
The electric vehicle fleet now exceeds 16k, with notable growth in Barcelona, where it tripled to 1.9k e-mopeds. The company has also introduced 800 e-bikes in Rotterdam.
Denver Bans Scooter Riding on Sidewalks
Denver’s City Council unanimously approved a new ordinance requiring micro-mobility vendors to install GPS-based detection technology to prevent e-bike and scooter riders from using sidewalks. Riders must park in designated corrals, and devices will issue alerts or impose fines/vendor penalties if sidewalks are used. Existing scooters will be replaced with compliant models. The city anticipates these changes will take effect by mid-year next year.
Squamish Considers Legalizing E-Scooters
Squamish may join B.C.’s Electric Kick Scooter Pilot Project (EKSPP) to legalize e-scooters, currently banned but widely used. The provincial pilot, launched in 2021 and extended through 2028 with 26 participating municipalities, permits e-scooters on roads (≤50 km/h zones) and bike lanes, prohibits sidewalk/crosswalk use (unless signed). Currently, no license or insurance is needed.
Long Beach Launches 12-Month E-Scooter Pilot
Long Beach approved a year-long e-scooter pilot (April 2025–March 2026) along the Shoreline Pedestrian Bike Path between Alamitos Ave and 54th Place. Private and shared scooters are allowed in bike lanes with a 15 mph speed limit, reduced to 5 mph in busy areas via geofencing. Bicycles can travel up to 20 mph. The program will evaluate safety and compliance, with a six-month review deciding its future. New signage and user separation will support enforcement. This follows a 2018 beach path scooter ban due to parking issues.
NIU’s Stock Soars in 2025
Chinese e-scooter maker NIU Technologies saw its stock nearly double in 2025, driven by a 66.2% surge in domestic sales (183k units) fueled by China’s trade-in incentives. Q1 revenue rose 35.1% to RMB 682m ($94m), though per-scooter revenue dropped 14% due to affordable models. Tech upgrades (radar, AI) and retail expansion boosted growth. International sales grew modestly (6.4%), hindered by tariffs and logistics, contributing to a 17.3% gross margin and a narrowed net loss (RMB 38.8m). NIU forecasts 40-50% Q2 revenue growth and plans production diversification.
