Rekola Relaunches E-Bikes in Prague
Rekola has reintroduced shared e-bikes in Prague, deploying 50 e-bikes (25 km/h top speed) and plans to expand the fleet to nearly 100, complementing its existing 1k traditional bikes. The relaunch aims to boost accessibility, serve hilly neighborhoods (e.g., Vinohrady, Letná), and offer affordable urban mobility. This move follows a previous 2019 trial of 70 e-bikes (discontinued due to operational issues) and successful pilot programs in smaller cities in 2024.
CaBi Witnesses Record April as Ridership Surges
Capital Bikeshare (CaBi) saw 664.2k trips in April 2025, a 35.5% surge year-over-year and its busiest April ever, continuing 40 months of growth. In the Greater Washington region, CaBi saw e-bikes dominate usage, making up 60.1% of rides, even among members (63.3% of their trips) despite free classic bike access.
Docking trends show riders often start and end trips similarly: 72.9% of docked e-bike rides ended docked, while 69.1% of undocked rides remained undocked. Casual riders docked e-bikes 71.1% of the time vs. members’ 47.9%. CaBi remains the second-busiest U.S. bikeshare (after Citibike) and most affordable.

Mississauga Expands E-Scooter & E-Bike Parking
Mississauga launched over 100 dedicated parking stations for shared e-bikes and e-scooters on May 16 to address the issue of haphazard parking. 120k trips were recorded between June and December 2024 by 45k users. The stations will be located in key areas like transit hubs and busy districts. Riders must use designated parking, with parking areas listed in the Bird and Lime apps; the city is also removing the pole-locking requirement.

Bird Scooters Expand to Hamilton Mountain
Bird Canada’s shared-scooter network, previously limited to the lower city, expanded to the Hamilton Mountain on May 9. An additional 300 e-scooters will be deployed across Wards 6, 7, 8, and 14. The full rollout is expected to be completed by June. This expansion brings Bird’s total fleet in Hamilton to approximately 900 scooters, complementing the 600 already operating in the lower city. The expansion follows two years of ridership data analysis by transportation planning staff in collaboration with ward councillors.
Finland Proposes National E-Scooter Ban for Under-15
The Finnish Parliament's Transport and Communications Committee has endorsed a national ban on e-scooter use for those under 15, as part of a broader micromobility report following accidents involving minors. The legislation applies to both rented and privately owned e-scooters, excluding electric bicycles. Additionally, companies offering e-scooter rentals must obtain special operating permits in each municipality. The proposal will now be reviewed by the full Parliament.
