Dutch Bike Revenue Stays Afloat, Despite Volume Dip
The Netherlands’ bicycle market has seen a notable shift over the past decade. From 2014 to 2024, bicycle sales volume in the Netherlands declined from 1.05 to 0.86m units, with the peak sales in 2020 at 1.11m units. Despite fewer bikes sold, turnover rose from €0.89B to €1.55B, reflecting a shift toward higher-value models, driven by e-bike adoption and changing consumer preferences.
In 2024, e-bikes made up 48% of all bicycle sales in the Netherlands. Within the e-bike segment, city models dominated with an 86.8% share.
Lime Hits 1 Million Rides in a Single Day
Lime recorded over one million rides globally in a single day on May 30, 2025. London led in total trips, Seattle in North America, Berlin in e-scooter trips, and Paris in trips per vehicle. The company operates in 30+ countries. Lime's Gen4 e-scooters and e-bikes are among the most widely used micromobility vehicles.
ItalSpeedForm Unveils Sportivetta Zero1
ItalSpeedForm has introduced the Sportivetta Zero1, an ultra-compact micro crossover concept for urban mobility. At under 2.5 meters long, it occupies half a standard parking space and features a bold helmet-inspired design with yellow-black livery. Targeting young drivers (14+ with AM license) and city commuters, and offers triple the energy efficiency of larger EVs.
Basildon Terminates E-Scooter Trial
Basildon Council has ended its e-scooter rental trial operated by Dott and removed all vehicles due to significant safety concerns, including widespread reports of "reckless riding". Despite the trial starting in 2020 and being extended annually, the council voted to abandon it in January under Essex County Council's opt-out provision. Dott stated it remains committed to future safe transport solutions, while trials continue in Chelmsford, Colchester, and Braintree.
Vernon Bird Scooters Show High Ridership
Bird Scooters reported significant usage in Vernon since launching on March 3, with riders covering 30k km and averaging a record of 6.4 rides per rider. However, council members raised concerns over scooters blocking sidewalks due to locked wheels and questioned perceived ridership declines compared to prior provider Neuron. Bird is offering a $44.99 monthly pass, and operates under a renewable contract aligned with B.C.'s e-scooter pilot, permitting sidewalk use if yielding to pedestrians.
NYC to Enforce 15 mph Speed Limit
New York City will enforce a 15 mph speed limit for e-bikes and scooters on city streets to address safety concerns in bike lanes and public spaces. The rule aligns with existing scooter regulations. Officials also reiterated a stalled proposal to create a delivery regulatory agency for overseeing app companies, enforcing speed limits, and monitoring worker safety. The city has added 90 miles of protected bike lanes but stresses legislative action is needed for broader reforms.
Lime, Uber Extend Their Integration Agreement
Lime and Uber have signed a new multi-year deal, keeping Lime’s scooters and bikes available on Uber’s app across the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The partnership, which began in 2018, has helped Lime outpace rivals, achieving $810m in 2024 gross bookings and four consecutive years of 30% growth. Currently, Uber holds a 29% stake in Lime.
Nashville Gets New Lime E-Bikes
Nashville will be among the first global cities to introduce Lime’s latest e-bike model. Up to 200 e-bikes will be rolled out across the city over the coming weeks. The new bikes feature smaller wheels for easier mounting and dismounting, and larger front baskets for added convenience.
Charlottetown Approves E-Scooter Parking Zones
Charlottetown Council unanimously approved leasing 18 public parking zones to Epic Electric Scooters for summer 2025, charging $50/month per location ($900 total). The one-year renewable agreement allows scooter parking in designated city rights-of-way, but does not authorize active operations. Liability falls to Epic’s insurance (city named second party), with geo-fencing restricting scooter access to prohibited areas. Enforcement for rider violations (e.g., no helmets) remains with police.
Cooltra Launches its First E-Bike
Cooltra has unveiled the Cooltra One, its first Europe-made proprietary e-bike designed for delivery and corporate fleets. Initial rollout focuses on Germany and the Netherlands, with 330 units available via corporate rental and Rent-to-Rent (R2R) models. This new model is the first e-bike, developed under the Cooltra brand in collaboration with the Spanish bicycle brand Conor.
