Italy’s E-Bikes Make Up 20% of Total Bike Sales in 2024
In 2024, overall bike sales were 1.35m, similar to 2023, where it was 1.36m units. Traditional bike sales declined by 29%, dropping from 1.51m units in 2019 to 1.08m in 2024, with a sharp 24% fall between 2022 and 2023. During this period, Italy’s bike market underwent a marked shift toward electrification.
E-bike sales surged early (+44% in 2020, +14% in 2022) but dipped 19% in 2023 before stabilising at 274k units in 2024 (+0.37%). The turnover from bicycle sales was valued at €2.6B in 2024. By 2024, e-bikes accounted for 20% of total sales, up from 11% in 2019. Within e-bikes, E-MTBs lead with 51% share, followed by E-City bikes at 43%.
Nextbike Group Acquires Nextbike Polska to Expand European Reach
Nextbike Group, owned by Star Pedal II (a subsidiary of parent company Star Pedal), has acquired a 100% stake in Poland’s leading bike-share provider, Nextbike Polska. The merger aims to expand urban networks and integrate multimodal mobility solutions, including pedal bikes, e-bikes, cargo bikes, and docking stations. The Polish team will drive growth across Central, Eastern, and Northern Europe.
Rental Scooters and Bikes Make Early Return to Lethbridge
Bird Canada, in partnership with the City of Lethbridge, has returned its rental bikes and e-scooters for the second year, starting earlier than last season. The return builds on last year’s success, where the city ranked in the national Top 10 with 1.5 daily rides per vehicle. New features include more vehicles, free helmets for frequent riders via the app, and extended seasonal availability.
Yadea Expands in Vietnam, Sets up New Production Facility
Yadea is expanding in Vietnam with a $100m investment. The company is setting up a new production & assembly facility in Bac Giang. The new factory will be operating from Q4-2025, with an annual production capacity of 2m. Vietnam targets 22% electric motorbikes by 2030 and aims to make all vehicles powered by green energy by 2050.
Massachusetts Rolls Out E-Bike Rebates
Massachusetts Clean Energy Centre (MCEC) has launched a statewide e-bike rebate program. Income-based vouchers, up to $1.2k, are available for eligible residents. Approximately 3k vouchers will be distributed through a lottery system. Successful applicants will also receive an extra $150 equipment voucher for accessories.
Evanston Plans Divvy Bike Share Expansion
Evanston will expand its Divvy bike-sharing network by adding five new stations, each accommodating 15 bikes and designated parking for dockless e-bikes, using a $155K county grant and $250K in city funds. Currently, there are 14 Divvy bike stations. Upgrades include retrofitting existing stations for e-scooters and expanding membership offers to low-income residents.

Evolve E-Bike Share Expands to Squamish
Squamish is launching its e-bike share program in May 2025, operated by Evolve. 75 e-bikes will be available across 17 locations. Meanwhile, Evolve has relaunched its e-bike share program in Whistler for the 4th year, the success of which has led to the expansion to Squamish.
New E-Bikes to be Added to Leeds E-Bikes Scheme
Beryl, the operator of the Leeds bike program, is adding 265 new generation “BBE2” e-bikes to its fleet on 22nd April. In addition, the bike scheme will expand with 10 new docking stations near the Roundhay and Oakwood areas.
Solent Transport Partners with Vianova
Solent Transport partners with Vianova to enhance shared e-scooter and e-bike operations in the Solent region, covering South Hampshire, Portsmouth, Southampton, and the Isle of Wight, supported by a £29m UK government grant. The initiative aims to use real-time data analytics for infrastructure planning, parking compliance, and regulatory transparency. Voi, the existing operator in the region, has facilitated over 4m e-scooter and 250k e-bike journeys.
$4.15m Grant Boost Bublr Bikes in Milwaukee
Bublr Bikes is expanding in Milwaukee by adding 500 more e-bikes and 800 new docks across the city. Bublr received a $4.15m funding, of which $3.3m is a federal grant and the rest $830k from the city council. Currently, there are 100+ stations and 500 vehicles available. The number of stations will double once the new docks are installed.
Bend Makes E-Bike Share Program Permanent After Pilot
Following a two-year pilot from 2022 to 2024 with 300 Bird e-bikes, Bend will transition to a permanent program despite a decline in ridership, from 25k rides in 2022 to ~15k in 2024. With Bird exiting, the city will issue a request for proposal for a new vendor. The city hopes to have the program up and running sometime this summer. Complaints dropped sharply, from 250 to 29, due to improved tracking and compliance policies
Airdrie's Shared e-Scooter Pilot Program to Be Offered Annually
Airdrie’s shared e-scooter pilot, which ran from 2022 to 2024 and was operated by Bird Canada and Neuron Mobility with 200 scooters, will transition to an annual program after recording 116.2k trips and 20.9k users. Parking complaints declined yearly from 37 to 28, and safety concerns were addressed, leading to zero safety complaints in 2024. In 2025, the fleet will be reduced to 175 scooters, with potential per-trip fees funding infrastructure upgrades.
